General Treasurer, Gina Raimondo, just launched Empower R I , a new financial empowerment initiative for Rhode Islanders.

"[Empower RI] is a series of different programs to help people better manage their money, save for college, budget, and watch out for credit card debit," Raimondo told the Rhode Show. "I think a strong Rhode Island starts with strong families that aren't in too much debt, that can have a budget they can live with. So this is about helping families be strong in Rhode Island."

As General Treasurer, one of Raimondo's top priorities have been to find ways to help Rhode Islanders better manage their finances.

Currently in Rhode Island, 67% of Rhode Islanders admit to having difficulty covering expenses and paying bills. Rhode Island is currently ranked as to having the fifth highest credit card debt in the country.

One of the programs in her Empower RI program is the Financial Coaching Core.

"The program we are most proud of, that we launched the other day is the Financial Coaching Core. It is a program where you can get one on one confidential financial coaching."

The Financial Coaching Core is only one of the many financial programs created under Empower RI. These programs are open for the public to use for free.

"Go in with your friend or your spouse and say, we want to be financially empowered." Raimondo said. "We don't want to be in debt. We want to be secure and empowered and live the life we want to lead. So, let's give them a hand."

For more information on how you can benefit from Empower RI, watch the attached video and visit the Empower RI website.
