Long waiting list for 50 Shades of Grey

BARRINGTON, R.I. (WPRI) - Libraries across the state have dozens of copies of Fifty Shades of Grey, but every single one is currently checked out.

While many have probably heard of the first novel of a the trilogy by E.L. James, a lot more have yet to get their hands on the popular book. Currently, there are 1,200 Rhode Islanders waiting to borrow nearly 150 hard copies from their local libraries.

In addition to hard copies, some libraries even offer electronic versions for almost every type of e-reader. However, even those copies have a waiting list.

Deborah Barchi, Director of the Barrington Public Library, has not been able to put a copy back on the shelf because someone is always waiting for the best seller. According to one resident, some libraries are not even carrying the book because of its high demand.

For those unable to get a copy, Barchi suggests picking up another book in the meantime. “One that is very popular is The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides. … A lot of it takes place on college hill,” says the Ocean State resident.
