Yoga: One of the best workouts for men

Yoga is not just for woman

Many guys go to the gym and you think they've gotten a good workout, but guys have you ever thought about trying yoga?

Most may not know that yoga was originally created by men for men.

Kelly O’Connell who is the Owner of “Yoga One” said, "Well, it increases your strength, that’s one thing; it really helps to build strength.  It does that by using your body weight as resistance."

Yoga has been found to be the perfect fit for men.

"No, we love beginners, men should definitely do yoga. They get tight in their shoulders, their chest, and their hips.  They do a lot of repetitive sports, men tend to like to do a certain type of sport just one and they can get injuries sometimes with those sports. So it's good to do yoga because yoga does flexibility and it helps to build strength, and you definitely need both," said Kelly.

Men need to really work at yoga.

"We have all ages here to do yoga and it's funny a lot of the times they will come in here and say they are not flexible, but that doesn't matter you come in and you get flexibility throughout doing the yoga."

Sam Hood one of “Yoga One’s” students said, “I was having back problems and I wasn't feeling that great, and I started doing yoga just to increase my flexibility and it really helped out. I really don't have much back problems anymore, and my shoulders are really loose. It's been great."

By adolescence, boy lose flexibility faster than girls.

"I think all the yoga postures are good for both men and women. Some of the yoga postures are good for specific tightness that men will have. Like men that have shoulder tightness, there are certain postures for that," explained Kelly.

Guys should not feel funny about doing yoga.

"I would think men would like to go to a yoga class with a lot of women. No, there is no reason for guys to be intimidated. I know I’ve heard that before that men can tend to be intimidated when they go to yoga class, but I mean we really like to just try to make sure everybody feels welcome here, and they shouldn't be intimidated at all," said Kelly.

"It was because most yoga classes I might be the only guy in there, but it's been great. Everyone is really nice and they welcome you in, so it's been no problem," added Sam.

Make no mistake about it, yoga is a full body workout.

Some bodies are just better at it than others.

"Well, we'll take you in, and we will start with just some simple sun salutations, moving you through those poses, and that actually helps to get you warmed up and then we'll start to specifically come into some poses that might help where ever your tightness is," said Kelly.

With work and so many stresses in life, yoga is great for woman and yes, men too. It will build strength, and the best part reduce your stress level.
