(WPRI) - The Providence Rock N Roll Half Marathon is coming up once again this summer, and now is the perfect time to sign up.
The Rhode Show, WPRI-12 and FOX Providence are proud sponsors of the event.
Kim Messey, director of events division, joined The Rhode Show with more information about race registration.
If registrants sign up on April 13, they can use code LUCKY13 to receive $13 off as part of a special promotion.
Committing to a race now is a great way to motivate new year’s resolutions or summer workout goals.
Training programs are available through various local charities who are now recruiting runners to run for a cause. These provide hands on coaching, group training runs and help with fundraising.
The Rock ‘n’ Roll Providence Half Marathon provides a uniquely entertaining running experience. Runners are motivated by live, local bands playing along every mile of the course, enthusiastic cheerleaders, and thousands of encouraging spectators.
At the finish line, runners can celebrate and rock out at a free post-race concert.
The event benefits seven different local charities. In 2011, 130 charity participants raised over $125,000 for various causes through Rock N Roll Providence.
The inaugural race debuted in 2011 as the largest half marathon in New England.
This year, the race will return on Sunday, August 19, 2012. Registration is available at www.Competitor.com.
The course will once again start and finish downtown and features a scenic tour of Providence’s historic landmarks, parks and the Seekonk River.
Event weekend concludes with a finish line festival and free post race concert.
