Kelsey Fournier, Miss Rhode Island America, joined The Rhode Show to demonstrate low impact exercises that really make you feel the burn.

Since weights vary from three to five pounds, Kelsey said these exercised are great for doing at home. Each exercise should last approximately the length of a song.

“Punch and Plie” (5 pound weights)
o Start in a plie (squat) position with knees facing outwards. Chest and core should be tight. Buttocks should be lower than knees.
o With 5 pound weights in each hand, alternate punching straight across chest. Repeat for 16 repetitions.
o Alternate to pulsing up and down, holding your core while lowering into plie position. Repeat for 16 repetitions
o Arch right foot while in plie for 16 repetitions. Arch left foot in plie for 16 repetitions.
o Arch both feet together and plie for 16 repetitions.

“Candlestick Shoulder Raise” (3 pound weights)
o Extend arms straight in front of you to shoulder height. Three pound weights in hand.
o While squeezing the shoulder blades, pulse up for 16 repetitions and down for 16 repetitions.
o While continuing to squeeze shoulder blades and keeping arms straight in front, pulse in for 16 repetitions and out for 16 repetitions.

These are exercises Kelsey does with clients during Barre workouts at Mind Body Barre. To try out a signature Mind Body Barre workout, visit mindbodybarre.com !
