PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- "Jersey Boys" has taken the stage at the Providence Performing Arts Center, and one of the show's stars wrote a book explaining what it’s like to follow your dreams to Broadway.
“This book is the story of what is was like to get my big break performing in Jersey Boys,” said Daniel Robert Sullivan, who plays Tom Devito in the play.
As a native Rhode Islander and URI graduate, Sullivan had to work hard to portray a character who is far different than him.
“Tom Devito is a tough guy." he said. "I had to get rid of my Newport background as I discovered what it’s like to be real Jersey.”
Sullivan described the ups and downs of a career in Broadway.
“Broadway is what I have wanted to do since I was a kid, it’s a dream," he added. "This book is the story of what it’s like to pursue that dream."
Sullivan also had some important tips for aspiring stage performers.
“Work hard and never stop," he said. "Many times somebody else was chosen for the role that I wanted. Twice I was passed over for the role that I would eventually get."
His book, “Places, Please: Becoming a Jersey Boy” is available through Iguana books or at any major bookstore.
