Great patriotic events coming up

Summertime in Rhode Island brings some of the greatest patriotic events from the Airshow , to the Bristol Fourth of July parade.

Bekah Berger and Paul Giammarco from 630 WPRO and 99.7 FM joined The Rhode Show, along with NiRoPe, Pete Cardi to talk about supporting those who defend our country and truly define patriotism.

Cardi's has been a long supporter of our armed services.

"Our dad served in World War II, his brother Nick was also in the army from 1970 – 1976. Our family knows first hand the importance of taking care of those who protect the united states.  For years we’ve worked with employer support of the guard and reserve, and in 2006 was recognized by President Bush in the Oval Office as being one of the top 15 companies in the country, and were recognized with the freedom award. We continue to support the US Marines toys for tots program, as well as operation stand-down, helping both young and older veterans with housing. We've had members of our staff be activated and deployed," said Pete Cardi.

Cardi’s Furniture has teamed up with 630 WPRO and 99.7 FM for a collection of cell phones for soldiers.

Rather than send the old cell phone to a soldier serving overseas, they will work with a company that will pay for the old cell phone. The money is then used to purchase calling cards and those are sent over to the men and women serving around the world so they can call loved ones with out the burden of paying for the minutes.

Anyone can swing by the WPRO tent at the Airshow this weekend to bring their old cell phones to donate, or if you want to get them in sooner, all the Cardi’s Furniture locations and the Cardi’s Furniture mattress locations have the donation boxes.

There is still time to win a new recliner in Cardi's Recliner-A-Day giveaway!
