Cardi's new year's organization tips

A new year means a new you

For many, a new year means a new you, and that means starting fresh by simplifying.

Ottomoans with hinged tops make great storage spaces. You can put extra blankets, board games and more inside.

Another tip is to identify everyone's space.

"Make sure everyone knows whose stuff goes where," said Ken Maccarone, lifestyle expert.

Also, label drawers or cubbies for each member of the family that way it's easier for everyone to locate their belongings.

Another way to help you have a good year is by getting a good night's sleep.

NiRoPe, Nick, Ron and Pete Cardi from Cardi's Furniture joined The Rhode Show to talk more about picking out a new bed.

The Rhode Show: Nick, how do you know when its time for a new mattress?

Nick Cardi: You actually need to think about how you’re sleeping, and how you feel when you wake up. Too often we think about it for a second, usually when we first wake up, but then something distracts us: TV, email on the cell phone, breakfast, kids, and our day just gets busier after that. Take two minutes, and I mean two solid minutes and think about when you first bought your current mattress, and if you can’t remember when you bought it, that’s a sign right there. But  ask yourself: 'Am I getting a good night’s sleep?' And if you share a bed with someone: ask them, you never know!

The Rhode Show: That’s a great point, so once we determine we need a new bed, whats the best way to pick out the right mattress?

Ron Cardi: In every case there’s one common factor: drive to one of our stores! We have 20 of them, we can help you. There’s a wide range of selections from innerspring and individually pocketed coils to the new memory foams and gel-infused memory foam. All of our stores have trained mattress specialists who will talk to you about how you sleep and help you navigate through our wide selection to find the right bed for you!  The other thing that is important is allowing yourself the time to come in and lay down on the beds to see whats right for you!  You don’t buy a new car without taking it for a test drive, and you spend a lot more time in bed than you do in the car:  take the time and invest in your own health.

The Rhode Show: Pete, how important is the pillow?

Pete Cardi: The pillow is the bed for the head, supporting up to 10 percent of your body weight. In addition, there are different pillows to accommodate the different ways people sleep,  on their side, back, or stomach. We have a wide selection of the best pillows and in addition to that, we also have mattress protectors. These are important:  if you’re going to invest in a mattress, protect the investment with these mattress covers which are machine washable and have a 10 year warranty, if it ever rips, tears or stains, just bring in the mattress pad, and we’ll give you a new one.
