It’s become as much as a tradition as the show it supports!

Children's auditions for this year's edition of Trinity Rep’s A Christmas Carol are coming up, and NiRoPe, Nick, Ron and Pete Cardi, as well as actor Robert Capron, joined The Rhode Show to talk more about it.

Many may recognize Robert from The Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie series.

The Rhode Show: Nick, when and where this is happening?

Nick Cardi: It will be taking place on Saturday, September 15 at the Cardi’s Furniture in South Attleboro. The auditions begin at 9 a.m. up in our community room. Parents are welcome to sit in the room when their child goes for their audition, and we encourage everyone to go to our website to see the guidelines for ages, what is required if your child gets the part. And you can download the forms, fill them out, saving you time on Saturday!

The Rhode Show: Ron, Cardi’s and Trinity Rep have been partners for years with this program, it’s proven to be extremely successful.

Ron Cardi: It really has, and every year we do it, we see new faces, returning faces, kids that maybe took the summer off from local theater now reunite, it’s really great. And if you have a child that’s ever mentioned wanting to try acting, this is a great way to expose them to the process, and most importantly, it’s free. They’re going to be seen by the directors of the show, and get a chance to show what they’ve got on-stage in our community room. And as far as successful, you just ask this gentleman standing with us today!

The Rhode Show: Robert, people have seen you in your roles on film, but part of your childhood acting experiences, link back to Trinity Rep and Cardi’s Furniture, tell us about how it worked for you!

Robert Capron: Being in A Christmas Carol really kicked off my acting career. And I remember my original audition was at Cardi's Furniture like the one on Saturday. And I played the part of the 'Turkey Boy', he's towards the end of the play. Yeah, that was really fun, and I really owe everything I've done in acting to Cardi's Furniture and Trinity Rep.

The Rhode Show: Pete, how many kids come out to audition?

Pete Cardi: In the past we’ve had as many as 200 come out to participate and with the auditions being from 9 a.m. to 1 .p.m, we sometimes see kids come in wearing soccer uniforms or fall ball uniforms as they go from one weekend event to the other. We’re proud of our relationship with trinity, they are truly a world-class theater right here in Rhode Island, and we hope everyone gets out to see this years edition of A Christmas Carol! Buy your tickets early, because it always sells out!
