Festival of Lights at Edaville

Millions of lights set up for Christmas

CARVER, Mass. (WPRI) - It's just a few days away from the official start of the Christmas season and for many, it's the best time of year.

Will Gilbert headed out to Edaville Railroad in Carver, Massachusetts to see the “Festival of Lights” that is sure to put you in the holiday mood.

Edaville Railroad's “Festival of Lights" has been putting on their Christmas best since 1947.

"It is our signature annual event, and it features over seven million lights, a ton of decorated magical Christmas spaces, animations, scenes, most of which are actually new this year," said Suzanne Byron, who is in charge of marketing for Edaville.

Children and those that think they are still kids can’t wait to jump on the train and take on a magical ride.

"Almost everyone I talk to comes here, even if they haven't been here since they were small children. It's been part of their life the whole time. You come here at a time when you're open to magic, we deliver the magic, and you might even forget about it for a few years until you have your own kids and you want to share it with them," said Byron.

Edaville resident Conductor, Bob Sangos loves this time of year. "It's very special to me, I’ve been coming here since I was a young fellah, and I really enjoyed the place. I love being here, it really is. I love the people, and I love the kids, I love the whole bit of it, it's just beautiful."

According to Suzanne the best part is seeing the kids.

"Seeing a kid's eyes light up when a steam engine runs around the corner is amazing. Seeing them look at a corner with a thousand wrapped gifts and wondering, 'Can I open these up? And will there be a gift for me inside that?' really, it's just the wonder, it's the magic."

Thousands of people from Rhode Island and Massachusetts make their annual trip to Carver, Mass. and Edaville Railroad, saying Christmas would not be the same without the Festival of Lights.
