(WPRI) -- It wouldn't be the holiday season in Rhode Island without a certain well-known officer.
His fancy footwork has attracted national attention, and now he's back directing traffic for the busy shoppers on the streets of Providence.
Tony the Dancing Cop has been directing traffic since 1984.
Tony LePore directed traffic the traditional way for two years, and one day in 1984, he got bored. He remembered once watching a clip on "Candid Camera" of some officers in New York in the 50s flamboyantly directing traffic, and thought it was quite entertaining.
So, all of a sudden that little boy who was pent up inside came out. His routine was simple. A half spin and some fancy hand movements and before long The Providence Journal had a front page spread titled; "Making traffic flow with a flair."
Watch the attached video to see Tony the Dancing Cop show off his moves to Rhode Show co-host Will Gilbert.
Tony's Holiday Schedule:
Weybosett and Dorrance - Downtown Providence
Dec 10 - Dec 14
Dec 17 - Dec 21 - and Dec 24th
