The Spooky Zoo at Roger Williams Park Zoo is happening this weekend and offers Halloween fun for the whole family.
Sue Johnson, Special Events Coordinator, and Lou Perrotti, Director of Conservation Programs, from the zoo brought along some spooky friends.
The Northern Blue Tongued Skink is native to Australia and characterized by its long blue tongue. Joe and Sue brought in Wali, born on August 12, 1999. Skinks are omnivores that live on a variety of small animals, insects, and plants. They can live up to 20 years and give birth to live young.
The Honduran Milk Snake was also brought in. The snake’s name is Valentine and is a non-venomous constrictor. Honduran Milk Snakes are native to Honduras, Nicaragua, and parts of Costa Rica. They are tri-colored with bold rings of white/yellow, black and red/orange that may or may not extend onto the belly and completely encircle the snake. These snakes also have Jacobson organs and can live up to 15 years in the wild and up to 20+ years in captivity.
The Spooky Zoo will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on October 27 and 28. It will feature a Trick or Treat trail in Tropical America, the Spooky games tent, pumpkin carving demos, character meet and greets, pumpkin enrichment for the animals, and animal all-stars in Hasbro’s Our Big Backyard exhibit.
Access to the event is free with zoo admission and children 12 and under dressed in costume will receive half-priced admission.
