(WPRI) - The Providence Children's Film Festival takes place this weekend, it's a terrific event for families.
Brenda Shannon, the festival's president, and Director of Programming Eric Bilodeau joined the Rhode Show talk about the details.
Opening night for the festival was held Thursday night, and the events kick off after school Friday afternoon. The event runs all weekend, and through Monday and Tuesday of next week as well.
Movies will be shown and activities will be held at three different venues in Providence: Cable Car Cinema, the RISD Auditorium, and the Metcalf Auditorium, located at the RISD Museum.
"There are documentaries and foreign films, and they are very strong and very wide-appealing." said Bilodeau. "We really look forward to seeing the response from people."
Bilodeau says that despite what parents may think, kids often love the foreign films and documentaries. Many parents have approached him about it, saying things such as: "My child loved it! It was in German!"
Another aspect of the festival is the many workshops being held over the weekend. Unfortunately, all of the animation workshops have already sold out, but many drop-in workshops are available and great for kids of all ages.
Individual tickets can be bought to any movie, but the site also offers the "Film Fanatic Family Pack," which is 10 tickets for 25% off.
Tickets can be bought online at the festival's website. There's also a full list of films being shown, along with age recommendations for every film.
