Most people have heard of the Venus Fly Trap, but did you know there are hundreds of carnivorous plants?
A carnivorous plant is one that lures, captures and digests its prey.
According to John Lombardi, Secretary, New England Carnivorous Plant Society (NECPS) , said there more than 600 species and over a dozen which grow in natively in New England.
An interesting fact, carnivorous plants have trigger sensors on the outside of the plant that detect insects. They feed on the insects and use them for energy and to grow and move. They prey on things as small as a gnat to as large as mice, rats and snakes.
Plant lovers can check out some carnivorous plants this weekend at The The 9th Annual International Carnivorous Plant Society Meeting and Show.
It's being held August 11 to 13 at Johnson and Wales University Inn located in Seekonk, Mass. It's a public show and anyone can attend to see these amazing plants.
