The fourth annual Canine Couture Fashion Show takes place at Rough Point Mansion this weekend. Lynne Wieder, owner of Wag Nation, and her dog, Eloise visited The Rhode Show to talk about the fun event in Newport.
The Canine Couture fashion show is hosted by the Newport Restoration Foundation and gives owners a chance to showcase their pets in their Newport best. Dogs and their owners will be dressed by different boutiques on Bellevue Avenue.
The event is inspired by Doris Duke's love for dogs and is sponsored by Newport pet boutique ‘Wag Nation’ and ‘Newport Fed’. Proceeds from the event benefit the Newport Restoration Foundation and the Potter League.
The grounds and exhibit galleries at Rough Point open at 5 p.m. with the fashion show starting at 6 p.m.. Tickets to the event are $10 for adults and free for children under 12. Tickets will be sold at the door and also allow entrance to the exhibit, Passport to the World: Doris Duke the International Traveler.
Attendees are invited to bring their own canine companion to see the show and enjoy Rough Point's sweeping views. All dogs must be on a leash; dog waste bags will be provided.
There will be treats for both humans and dogs and a cash bar, with a special appearance by Jonathan Pogash, the Cocktail Guru and signature cocktails from Bacardi USA. Guests can also see a special dog training demonstration - Loose Leash Walking - by Potter League experts. There will also be raffles with prizes donated by Bellevue Avenue merchants.
The fashion show of Canine Couture opens at 5 p.m. on Thursday, September 13.
