FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WPRI) - Soccer fans go crazy as rookie player Kelyn Rowe scores for the New England Revolution , but the 20-year-old west coast native is still getting his footing on the field.
"I've lived west coast my whole life and then coming to the east coast for the first time actually living here. I've actually never been to Boston or anywhere in the Foxboro area. It was a big experience for me and really fun," said Rowe.
The transition to the cold weather has been the hardest for Rowe.
"It's been, at first it was hard, it was cold. It was really cold when I first got here I believe it was January. It wasn't as bad as previous winters but it was windy and it was cold."
One of Rowe's favorite places to hang out in Foxborough is Patriot Place.
"I love movies anytime I have off time I go to the Showcase I watch a movie. I'll stay home and watch a movie, but if we need something to eat it is definitely Red Robin," explained Rowe.
He's a pro at the restaurant and knows just what's on the menu.
"I go straight for the clucks and fries. I'm a huge chicken fingers guy and the bottomless fries here are amazing. The seasoning they have unreal."
His family on the west coast could not be happier of Rowe's success.
"Everyone is so proud. My parents tell me after every game or before every game we are so proud of you, keep it up. I have Uncles and Aunts and cousins who keep in touch with me. They love it."
And playing on the field at Gillette Stadium has been his biggest thrill.
"Ya know you walk out and you hear the roar of the crowd it's pretty great!"
Rowe has some high hopes for the future of the New England Revolution.
"Hopefully the future is bright. I hope to play here for a while. I hope to make the playoffs again, and get this team back on track to it's previous glory," said Rowe.
Kelyn Rowe has been a mid-field position for the Revs. Before coming to the Revolution he was a star player for the UCLA Bruins.
The Revolution plays this weekend against Sporting Kansas City.
