On September 29, local residents will compete for the title of ‘Best Burger of 2012’ at the 2nd Annual Build Your Own Burger contest .

Joining the Rhode Show is Chef Chris from Luxe Burger with three of the five final contestants Greg McClure, Laura Hebert and Camron Parker.

In order to participate, guests filled out an entry form to create their burger from a list of 45 ingredients already offered at Luxe. In addition to the 45 ingredients, Chef Chris said, "This year you are allowed to use two [extra] ingredients instead of one."

Chef Chris showed The Rhode Show burgers from two contestants who could not make it onto the Rhode Show, Amanda Grace and Paul Sinclair.

Amanda Grace, from Warwick RI, named her burger the “Big Mac N’ Cheese Burger.” The burger consists of two burgers with homemade mac and cheese, layered in between each patty. Other ingredients include iceberg lettuce, dill pickles, Bermuda onions, horseradish mayo and spicy catsup on a sesame bun.

The second burger Chef Chris showed the Rhode Show was Providence local Paul Sinclair’s. Properly named “Baltimore’s Finest Burger” it features “a Maryland lump crab cake burger with baby lettuce and chipotle aioli.”

Lauren Hebert from Wakefield, RI came on the show to show off her “Chicken “N” Waffles Burger”. Ingredients include a waffle bun, friend chicken breast, fried egg, aged cheddar, chipotle mayonnaise, iceberg lettuce and maple syrup.

When the Rhode Show asked her why she had chosen that take on her burger, Lauren responded confidently. “It’s something different."

Greg McClure, from Hopkinton Mass, brought his “Fire from the Gods Burger.” Concerning the spiciness of his burger, Greg told the Rhode Show that it has “a little bit [of kick] but not too much.”

Greg's burger consists of lean turkey, goat cheese, baby lettuce, caramelized onions, smoked bacon, grilled fennel, and peppadew and garlic aioli on a sesame bun.

Meanwhile Providence local Camron Parker has an advantage over the competition, having eaten at Luxe Burger before. When asked how often he goes, Camron responded, “Too many times.”

His burger is sure to please the Rhode Island consumers with it's name the "Benefit Street Burger" which references the popular Benefit Street in Providence. It's ingredients include grilled chicken breast, sharp provolone, baby lettuce, caramelized onions, prosciutto, and pear and ginger chutney on a wheat bun

For the month of September, the top five contestants' burgers will be featured on the Luxe menu where they will be voted on by guests and showcased on The Rhode Show.

On September 29th at 12:00 p.m., the top five will participate in a final showdown where the best burgers will be prepared for a panel of culinary and celebrity judges, including The Rhode Show’s Will Gilbert. The panel will evaluate each submission’s taste, creativity, ease of production, overall composition, and the burger’s name.

In determining the final score, the following factors will be considered: votes on Facebook and the Luxe Burger website, sales of the burger during the month of September, and the opinions of the expert panel.

The winner of the 2nd Annual Build Your Own Burger will receive a $500 Chow Fun Food Group gift card and will have their burger featured on the Luxe menu.

For more information about the burgers or the contest, following along with the video or visit the Luxe Burger website.
