Incumbent nominee for U.S. House District 1, David Cicilline (D), joined “The Rhode Show” Wednesday as part of our “Coffee with the Candidates” series.
About David Cicilline:
- Graduated Narragansett High School
- Brown University as an undergraduate
- Law Degree from the Georgetown University Law Center.
- David was elected mayor of the City of Providence in 2002, and re-elected for a second term in office four years later in 2006.
- David decided to run for Congress by focusing on putting Rhode Islanders back to work and protecting important social service programs for seniors and families. After winning the general election, David was sworn in on January 5, 2011.
- Create a Make it in America Block Grant to help small manufacturers retool their factories and retrain workers with the skills they need to compete in a global economy.
- David has fought proposals that would weaken Medicare. He opposed the Republican budget plan, H.CON.RES. 34, which would have ended Medicare as we know it by changing it from a publicly-run health insurance plan to a voucher program for purchasing private health insurance.
- As a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, David has also been a strong voice for bringing our troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan as safely and expeditiously as we can.
