(WPRI) - It's a part of Providence that many will never see; thirty four hours in the life of a fireman/emergency medical technician.

From riding through the tough streets of South Providence to the historic mansions on the East side, all while responding to drug overdoses, gunshot wounds and other medical emergencies.

These stories and more are found in the book "Rescuing Providence." Author Lt. Michael Morse is a Providence Fire Department Captain whose books tell the story of the people of Providence.

The book is an inside look at those who call 911, the ones who respond plus some insight into the healthcare system.

In the attached video, Michael Morse talks more about the making of the book.
