Sarah Partyka from The Farmer’s Daughter spoke on The Rhode Show about attracting Hummingbirds and Butterflies to your garden.
Hummingbirds are attracted to certain colors like orange, reds and yellows – as well as flowers that are tubular form, whereas Butterflies like flat open shaped flowers. Both are looking for nectar eating plants.
In the demonstration, Sarah and Mary planted coleus, cuphea, million bells, and Fushia.
If you are hoping to attract more butterflies to your garden, you will want to plant host plants. Asclepias plants for monarchs, Fennel for Eastern Black Swallow Tail, and Helichrysum for Painted Lady.
The Butterfly Paviollion is now open at the Farmer's Daughter. The hours of operation are between 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily. To learn more, or to schedule a school or daycare field trip to the Butterfly Pavilion, please call 401-792-1340.
