(WPRI) - In addition to "helping people at all times," camping and doing community service, the Girl Scouts have also been celebrating.
Jean McGrane, CEO of Girl Scouts of Rhode Island said that “the Girl Scouts have developed the Year of the Girl campaign is to raise up the level of intention on girls and issues facing girls today."
The Girl Scouts Organization strives to build girls of courage, confidence, and character at the Girl Scouts and we do that in a variety of ways.
March 12, 2012, marked the organization’s 100th birthday.
Local girl scouts went to Women and Infants, and honored all of the baby girls born on that day. Each little girl was welcomed into an honorary troop, Troop 2012.
They will get their first year of membership paid when they enter kindergarten. The babies received onesies and certificates.
On March 13th, members of the Girl Scouts of Rhode Island met at the State House, where Gov. Lincoln Chaffee and Lt. Governor Elizabeth Roberts wished the organization a happy 100th birthday.
The women of the general assembly took a pledge for the year of the girl, becoming honorary girl scouts.
