EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - This week on the first half of Newsmakers: the interim director of the embattled Department of Motor Vehicles, Lisa Holley. Last month, Gov. Lincoln Chafee appointed Holley to head up a team to examine and fix the DMV. While they are only one week into their 30-day analysis, Holley says there are clear issues within the DMV - from unbalanced staffing to a computer system that has taken far too long to get online.

Then on the second half of Newsmakers, our analysis of the governor’s budget proposal continues with the executive director of the Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council, John Simmons. He says while RIPEC has long supported a broadening and lowering of the sales tax, he feels the Chafee budget plan has gone too far and could hurt businesses. He also talks about the need to make more cuts, particularly in Health and Human Services.
