EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - This week on Newsmakers: Providence Mayor-elect Angel Taveras. With a punishing budget deficit, underperforming schools, a foreclosure crisis and high unemployment rates, Angel Taveras is taking the helm of a rocky ship when he is sworn in as the city’s first ever Latino mayor in January. Taveras discusses his ideas on economic development, running a more efficient government and holding teachers accountable in the public schools. Taveras also tackled e-verify and what he plans to do with public safety in Providence.
