EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - This week on Newsmakers: organized labor responds to Governor Lincoln Chafee’s budget proposal. Rhode Island AFL-CIO President George Nee and President of Council 94 – Rhode Island’s largest public workers union – J. Michael Downey discuss the budget and controversial pension reform options floated by Governor Chafee and General Treasurer Gina Raimondo. They also discuss the public perception war unions must battle as they look to protect their benefits and answer questions about any potential divide between private sector and public sector unions.
