EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – This week on Newsmakers: the vacant home crisis in Providence. With more than 500 homes abandoned or vacant, according to figures from Providence officials, Mayor Angel Taveras talks about his work in trying to fix the problem. A former housing court judge, Taveras was on the bench when the housing market collapsed. Since then he has been trying to launch a new program to rehabilitate run-down properties and put them back on the market.

Mayor Taveras tours hard-hit areas of Providence with Tim White and talks about the current state of vacant homes in his city and details on their attempts to fix it.
