EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - This week on the first half of Newsmakers: filmmaker and Rhode Island School of Design student Julian Marshall. A new short film by Marshall depicts the very beginning of street artist Shepard Fairey's career and his brush with Providence politics. Marshall talks about the challenges of creating a film that centers on Fairey and former Mayor Vincent “Buddy” Cianci, including having to erect a full-size campaign billboard on the East Side of Providence. With a debut weeks away, Marshall is still in the fundraising process to get it entered into film festivals.
Then, WPRI.com reporter Ted Nesi sits down with former Republican Congresswoman Claudine Schneider. On a rare visit back to Rhode Island, Schneider talks about why Congress is increasingly polarized, the importance of women holding office, the challenges she faced running, her new e-book "Fed Up with Congress," and what advice she'd give candidate Brendan Doherty.
