EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - This week on Newsmakers: Congressman David Cicilline, D- R.I. In a wide-ranging interview from his Providence home, the freshman Congressman admits publicly for the first time that it was a mistake to refer to Providence’s finances as “excellent” in his 2010 campaign. The former mayor is facing sagging poll numbers and has been unable to shake the negative effects Providence’s finances are having on his reelection effort for Congress. Cicilline apologizes to voters for categorizing Providence’s budget in a better light and defends his decisions he made saying it was in an effort to spare Providence resident a spike in taxes for “as long as possible.”
