EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - This week on Newsmakers: Gov. Lincoln Chafee.

Just 24 hours after Providence Mayor Angel Taveras warns his city is on the brink of bankruptcy, Chafee discusses the efforts the state is undertaking to help the capital avoid not only bankruptcy but a potential receivership.

Chafee is then joined by State Budget Officer Thomas Mullaney to dissect his $7.9 billion tax-and-spending proposal, which calls for a $40 million increase in education funding paid for with higher taxes and $45 million in cuts.
