EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - This week on Newsmakers: former state police superintendent and one-time congressional candidate Brendan Doherty. With nearly three decades of law enforcement experience, Doherty talks about what he thinks gun control should look like at the state and national level in the wake of the tragic Newtown shooting. He says the main obstacle is tracking those who have suffered from mental illness when they try and purchase a gun.
Plus, the former Republican congressional candidate also reflects on his loss to Democratic Congressman David Cicilline in the 2012 elections. He says he has not closed the door to the possibility of running for office again, including for governor in 2014.
