EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - This week on Newsmakers: Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee. During his annual state of the state address Chafee outlined his plan for the state’s next budget. Chafee’s tax and spend plan includes a gradual reduction of the corporate incomes tax, increase in funding for K-12 and higher education as well as increases in municipal aid. Chafee’s previous budgets have included some revenue increases through sales and meals taxes, but left those out this time around. He says this was possible because Rhode Island is beginning to head down the right path. Governor Chafee also discusses his political future, gun control on both the state and federal level as well as tolls on the Sakonnet River bridge.
