EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - This week on Newsmakers: Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian and Cranston Mayor Allan Fung. With pension reform swirling around the state house, city and town leaders are eagerly anticipating what reform may look like for many struggling independently managed pension systems. Fung is calling for the state to give him the ability to freeze cost of living adjustments, or COLA’s, like the Chafee-Raimondo bill is doing for state employees and teachers. But Avedisian says his town doesn’t need that and is concerned municipal pension reform could hurt the bills chances on Smith Hill.
