EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - This week on Newsmakers: Woonsocket Mayor Leo Fontaine. With a devastating mill fire still smoldering, Mayor Fontaine talks about environmental concerns and the economic impact the fire has on his city. He also discusses the fear of the city going into bankruptcy and how the cost of fighting the mill fire could play a role in that process. Then, Providence firefighter union president Paul Doughty talks about the possibility of firefighters losing their jobs because of the city’s economic problems.
