EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -  

This week on Newsmakers: Providence Mayor Angel Taveras. With Central Falls taking a step closer to filing for bankruptcy, all eyes are on Providence to see if they too may need judicial intervention. Mayor Taveras said bankruptcy is not on the table, but “hard choices” need to be made including concessions from unions and money from tax exempt colleges, universities and hospitals. He also reacts to the Target 12 undercover investigation “Feel the Burn” which revealed a retired firefighter collecting a tax-free disability pension taking part in a dedicated weightlifting routine. Then, an exclusive interview with U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood and Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse on Rhode Island getting $28 Million from the federal government to improve rail service. Secretary LaHood also voices his concern for turning route 95 into a toll road.
