This week on the first half of Newsmakers: Providence Public Safety Commissioner Steven Pare says he supports the city council's move asking state lawmakers to ban assault weapons, but that the real challenge for the city is guns illegally obtained in the city. Pare says law enforcement officials have been unsuccessful in passing laws that would strengthen penalties on possession within city limits and changing how gun permits are issued.
Then on the second half: WPRI.com reporter Ted Nesi joins the program via satellite from Washington D.C. to talk about the beginning of the 113th Congress. Nesi breaks down his interviews with the Rhode Island delegation as well as Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren and Congressman Joseph Kennedy III.
