To re-gift or not re-gift?

Re-gifting can help the less fortunate

REHOBOTH, Mass., (WPRI) - Should you re-gift or not re-gift? Plenty of people do it, but not too many people are willing to admit it.

But one local woman says there's no shame in recycling your presents as long it helps out those who are less fortunate. In addition to feeding families in need, a local food pantry is now helping out with holiday gifts as well.

Reduce, reuse, re-gift, and recycle. It's normally considered a social no-no, Re-gift Rehoboth founder Julia Sweet says re-gifting is an eco-friendly way to get rid of gifts that people simply cannot use.

Julia Sweet, Re-gift Rehoboth Founder said, "This is a good way of keeping things in circulation and not having to throw things out and fill the landfill. Gifts are dropped off here at this food pantry in Rehoboth, or with at the fitness who brings them in on a regular basis. Some of the most common contributors are postal workers and teachers."

As long as they're in pristine, unused condition, preferably in their wrapping paper with the tags still on it's perfect. For families that have hit hard times, the food pantry now helps them put food on the table, and put a few things under the tree as well. Steve Martin, who runs the pantry, has already seen the program make a difference.

"The smiles that you see on their faces coming in, something they couldn't afford to buy, something very special," said Martin.

The re-gifting program isn't just for the holidays; they accept donations all year round.
