PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - The state is offering cash incentives for Rhode Islanders who trade their old appliances in for new, energy efficient machines.
The Appliance Rebate Program 2010 begins this February.
According to the RI Office of Energy Resources , qualified customers can get $150 for purchasing an Energy Star fridge or dishwasher, and up to $1,000 for a new water heater.
Home Depot Sales Specialist, Robert Ursini, says participants can double their savings if they pay attention, "when we run sales on Energy Star appliances, they can get the discount from us and still get the rebate."
They also stand save more money, by lowering their monthly energy bills.
Customers shouldn't expect the rebate from their local store, instead they should apply for the cash back by contacting the RI Office of Energy Resource s, which will also have information on how to recycle the old clunkers.
There's $1 million in funds available now in RI. The program will start in Massachusetts next month.
