WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) - The Community College of Rhode Island this fall will offer one of Rhode Island's first courses on renewable energy.
The course, Introduction to Renewable Energy, will focus on green energy technologies like wind, solar and hydroelectric power.
"This is an introductory course, and we're doing this deliberately to catch as many students as possible," said instructor Gerry Bernardini.
Students will use a hands-on approach to investigate how renewable energy like wind power gets converted into electricity.
The federal Department of Energy is helping pay for the course with a $750,000 grant, Bernardini said.
The course is open to the public, but requires a basic physics course and a basic course in algebra. It costs $300 to enroll.
