NEW BEDFORD, Mass., (WPRI) - The New Bedford business park attracts a lot of interest from renewable energy companies, now there's a new addition on the way that may be the first of its kind.
Officials have plans to install 7,000 solar panels at the park. Solar panels soak up the sun and provide clean energy at the same time.
Tom Davis, director for the New Bedford business park says the panels would be put at the south end of the park, making them part of the largest solar facility in New England. He says the panels could power 2,000 homes, completely CO2 free.
The project is aided by a 2008 Massachusetts law allowing utility companies to partner up with renewable energy developers like Conn Edison, who will be putting in the panels.
But some may have concerns that such a large complex may become unsightly.
The plan is to start construction on the panels by the fall, with completion by the end of the year.
