PROVIDENCE, R.I. 9WPRI) - Some of the tiniest patients at Women & Infants' Hospital are moved to a brand new, state of the art unit.

The historic move happened on Wednesday, just two days after the South Pavilion opened its doors. The project to build a new high-risk obstetrical unit and the nation's largest neo-natal intensive care unit (NICU) was five years in the making.

First, clinical staff moved all adults on the antenatal care unit from the original hospital building into the fourth floor of the South Pavillion. That was followed by the move of the babies to the new NICU.
