Report: RI ranks last in stimulus jobs

Governor disagrees, says over 1,000 jobs created

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - A new federal report says Rhode Island is not doing much to create new jobs with federal stimulus money.

According to recovery.gov, only six jobs can be directly attributed to the stimulus money flowing into the state from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 .

However, on Thursday Governor Donald Carcieri disputed that report. He is crediting federal stimulus funding for creating or preserving over seventeen hundred jobs statewide.

The latest reports show how Rhode Island has so far spent its stimulus funding, awards it's granted, job figures and the status of ongoing projects.

Those estimates could change as state and federal officials continue to review the reports
