Bridge work closes road in Barrington

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation is limiting a road in Barrington to local traffic only, as crews work on the new Barrington Bridge.

Starting Monday morning, drivers travelling south on Route 114 (County Road) will not be able to turn right onto Mathewson Road. Instead, drivers should follow a detour using Rumstick Road to Jennys Lane to access Mathewson.

The does not impact drivers heading north on Route 114, because turns are not allowed onto Mathewson Road from that direction.

This restriction will be in place through the end of the year, as crews build a retaining wall associated with the new bridge. Construction of the wall could not begin until all traffic was shifted to the new bridge.
