WPRI.com - An accused cop shooter is being held without bail after appearing in court on Tuesday.

Police say Christopher Hall opened fire on officers during a drug raid Monday night. It happened at a house on Hollis Street in Providence.

Three Providence police detectives were hit and have all been released from the hospital. Providence police have identified the injured officers as Carlos A. Sical, Juan R. Robles and John "Joe" Black.

Police chief Col. Dean Esserman said the narcotics detectives identified themselves as police officers and were wearing police jackets at the time.

They forced their way in after receiving no answer at the door, and that's when the suspect inside opened fire, hitting the three detectives.

Esserman said the wounded officers returned fire, but the suspect was not hit. He was later injured during a struggle with officers, and eventually subdued. A neighbor said he heard seven to eight gunshots during the whole incident.

Esserman said more than a kilogram of crack cocaine and the suspect's gun were both recovered from the scene.

The three officers were taken to Rhode Island Hospital . Esserman said their injuries were non-life threatening, and have since been released.

Esserman said the injured suspect was also taken to Rhode Island Hospital. According to police, he left the hospital Tuesday morning.

Mayor David Cicilline and Esserman said they were both thankful the situation did not turn out worse.

"I think it is an example of the kind of dangerous work that officers do every day in this city," Cicilline said.

"I want to take a moment to point out these officers on a regular basis put themselves at risk for the people of this city," added Esserman.
