WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) - A Warwick teenager is facing more than detention after police said he robbed a bank while skipping school.
Police said the boy, 17, walked into the Coastway Bank on Warwick Ave. Thursday around 11:20 a.m. and handed the teller a note threatening to shoot everyone if he wasn't given money.
The teller, police said, did not see a weapon. However, she did give the suspect money.
Police said investigators were later able to identify the teen through bank surveillance photos and forensic evidence from the note and arrested him about 5:20 p.m.
"One of our uniformed officers thought he recognized the individual and verified his identity through the school resource officer," said Capt. Sean Collins.
The teen, who police are not identifying because of his age, was held at the training school on first-degree robbery charges.
The case will now go to Family Court. The Rhode Island Attorney General's Office will determine if it will remain there.
