BOSTON (AP) - It appears Rep. Stephen Lynch in getting into the race to succeed the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy.
A person purporting to represent the South Boston Democrat picked up nomination papers on Friday for the special election scheduled after Kennedy died last week.
A Lynch spokesman did not immediately return a call seeking to confirm the person represented the congressman.
Attorney General Martha Coakley is the first Democrat to officially announce her candidacy. Other Democrats considering a campaign include Kennedy's nephew, former Rep. Joseph P. Kennedy II, and Reps. Michael Capuano, Edward Markey and John Tierney.
Republicans weighing a campaign include Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey, state Sen. Scott Brown and former White House chief of staff Andrew Card.
Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling says he may also run.
