SWANSEA, Mass. (WPRI) - Police are still searching for a suspect wanted in the abduction of a 1-year-old girl, who has since been found safe.
The abduction set off an Amber Alert in Rhode Island and Massachusetts Thursday afternoon.
Kimberly Johnson, 38 is still on the run after police say she abducted Jaylin R. Boudria from the Shell gas station on Route 6 and Route 136 in Swansea.
On Friday, Eyewitness News spoke to the gas station clerk, who said the child's mother admitted she and her sister were "having problems," although no other details as to what those problems may be.
Police say Jaylin's mom stopped at the gas station to get her daughter a drink, leaving Jaylin and another child inside the car with Johnson. At some point police say, the other child got out of the car and Johnson took off with Jaylin.
Boudria was found safe in an industrial park in Middletown, CT on Thursday evening. According to police, a utility worker found the child and identified her through her clothing and a birthmark.
Officials took the toddler to a hospital for evaluation. A warrant has been issued for Johnson. Police said she is Jaylin's aunt; the half-sister of the girl's mother.
Authorities said Johnson has been entered into a nationwide database, so if she's pulled over she will be arrested. Eyewitness News also learned Thursday that Johnson has an outstanding warrant for larceny.
Johnson is currently living in Bristol, RI and has a residence in Minnesota, police said.
