CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) - The mayors of Cranston and Warwick held a news conference on Monday  to discuss flooding concerns.

The water level on the Pawtuxet River hit historic levels, and surrounding roads and neighborhoods have been effected by flooding. The city of Cranston is prepared to close any routes that may become flooded over the next few days.

Mayor Allan Fung said that voluntary evacuations have taken place in Cranston on Perkins Avenue as residents try and escape the flooding. In all, ten homes have been evacuated in that area and the power to those homes shut off.

Fung also reports that Pontiac Avenue and sections of Route 2 near Warwick remain closed while the town works with the State and Department of Transportation. Dams in the area are also being constantly checked and not to be in jeopardy of failure at this time.
