CRANSTON, R.I (WPRI) - The Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training (DLT) has started the hiring process for nearly two dozen jobs at their call center in Cranston.
The department is hiring 23 people. The additional staff will help the department cope with chronic backlogs and delays due to the state's high unemployment rate.
Last month, the agency announced it would be using federal funds to pay for the new hires . The application process closed on Wednesday, and applicant interviews will begin the week of March 15. According to the Providence Journal, the new hires are expected to begin working in early April.
Rhode Island's unemployment rate stands at 12.7% . It is the third highest in the United States behind Michigan and Nevada .
