(WPRI/WNAC) - We'd all like to win some easy money, and that's why so many people play the lottery. But, there are some scams out there that may come between you and your cash.
Walt Buteau has done a little digging into these lottery scams and joined The Rhode Show to talk about Monday night's report.
"State police and the lottery are teaming up to crack down on scams. They're doing undercover stings, what they call integrity checks, to make sure clerks are on the up and up," said Walt.
The stings are targeted specifically toward scratch tickets.
"And that's a big market. We're told 82 million dollars is spent on them every year here in Rhode Island. Big money."
More than 100 stores and lottery retailers have been checked out so far, and police have already made some arrests. They've identified certain types of scams, and that will be the focus of Walt's report Monday night.
"I'll reveal the most common scams, but I'll also let people know what they should watch for, and how they can avoid getting ripped off," continued Walt.
Be sure to tune in for "Lottery Scams" Monday night on Eyewitness News at 10 right on FOX Providence or at 11:00 on WPRI-12.
