PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Rhode Island House committee has endorsed a bill that would let voters decide on expanded gambling in the state.
The bill seeks voter approval for converting the state's two slot parlors, Twin River in Lincoln and Newport Grand in Newport, into full-scale casinos.
The casinos, if approved by voters, would be operated by the state.
The bill now heads to the full House.
Twin River and Newport Grand offer video lottery terminals but not the table games found at traditional casinos.
Supporters see casinos as a way to raise revenue for the state and say Rhode Island could lose out if neighboring Massachusetts approves expanded gambling.
