RI doctors approving medical marijuana
Review: 355 doctors have requested patient cards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A newspaper review says 21 Rhode Island doctors account for more than one-third of the 1,347 cards requested from the state to let patients use marijuana legally for medical purposes .
The Providence Journal reports that 355 doctors have signed forms asking the state Department of Public Health to issue a marijuana-use card to at least one of their patients.
They include Dr. Daniel Harrop III , who is running for mayor of Providence.
He says he approved medical marijuana use for one AIDS patient.
Many of the physicians who asked the state to issue one of the cards for a patient said they believe marijuana helps the patients' pain -- though some were uncomfortable with being caught in the
middle of controversy over the substance.
